Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon Klein Deutsch Bavarian seasoning
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
3/4 cup cold buttermilk, plus more for brushing
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and Klein Deutsch Bavarian seasoning.
Cut in the Butter:
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the Buttermilk:
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently with a fork or wooden spoon until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
Cut the Biscuits:
Using a biscuit cutter or a floured glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather the scraps, pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle again, and cut out more biscuits until all the dough is used.
Brush with Buttermilk:
Brush the tops of the biscuits with a little buttermilk to help them brown nicely.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
Serve:
Serve the biscuits warm, with butter, honey, or your favorite topping.
